Traveling with a Lap Child (Under the Age of 2)

If you are traveling with a lap child, you must call Hawaiian Airlines Reservations for further assistance.

At Hawaiian Airlines, your child’s safety is our priority. We understand that traveling with children can be stressful, so we’ve prepared these travel guidelines and safety restrictions below to help make your experience with us and the little ones the best it can be.

Traveling with a Child (Under the Age of 2)

We want to do our best to make your trip with us enjoyable for both you and your child. For guests traveling with children under the age of 2, we have two options.

  1. Children (under the age of 2) are allowed to travel as lap children, OR
  2. Travel using a rear-facing car seat in-flight on a purchased seat

Which travel option best fits your family's needs? Contact Hawaiian Airlines Reservations department to make your child’s reservation.

Are you planning to purchase a seat for your child (under the age of 2)? Or travel with a child over the age of 2?

Lap Child

If you prefer to travel with your child as a lap child, please be sure to hold them on your lap for the duration of the flight. The following restrictions apply:

  1. One (1) lap child is permitted for each ticketed adult
  2. You may not reserve seats for children traveling as lap children
  3. Carry-on and checked baggage allowances do not apply
  4. In-flight meal allowance does not apply

You may bring a child restraint car seat onboard as a carry on item based on seat availability. If there is an empty seat and the car seat is appropriately labeled (see, Travel Using a Safety Seat section below), we welcome you to use it.** If the flight is full, the car seat will be checked at the gate using a claim-at-gate tag. For your convenience, we will return the car seat to you at your arrival gate.

Traveling with Two Lap Children?

If you're traveling with two children (under the age of 2), the following restrictions apply:

  1. One (1) lap child is permitted for each ticked adult*
  2. If a ticketed adult* is traveling with two children (under the age of 2):
    • One (1) child may travel as a lap child and
    • an additional seat must be purchased for the second child
  3. One (1) lap child is permitted per seat section
    • Seat section is defined as adjacent seats separated by an aisle
    • Ex: Families with more than one lap child will need to be seated either across an aisle or in a different row
