- PERSONAL OXYGEN CONCENTRATOR (POC)
HA will accept POCs that have been approved by the FAA for use in the cabin and by HA for use on its flights.
- HA will accept the following POCs onboard its flights so long as the POC has a label attached indicating that is has been approved for use on the aircraft:

Customer may bring personally owned approved POCs on board or those provided by a medical supply service so long as the requirements in paragraph A.2. are met.
- Requirements for use of POCs on HA aircraft:
- 48 hours advance notice and one hour check-in before the check-in time for the general public is required for passenger’s using his/her own POC.
- Customer is required to have in their possession a written statement from their attending physician dated within thirty (30) days of departure point that includes:
- Passenger’s ability to travel
- Verification that the passenger is able to see and hear alarms and respond appropriately; AND
- Verification of when the oxygen will be required; i.e. for the duration of the trip or a portion of the trip; AND
- Prescribed oxygen flow rate identified in litres per minute (LPM) plus any additional information required.
- The POC must be labeled by the manufacturer to reflect that it has been tested to meet applicable FAA requirements for medical portable electronic devices.
- The POC must not cause interference with the electrical, navigation or communication equipment on the aircraft on which the device is to be used.
- Customer must ensure that there is sufficient number of charged batteries for the duration of the flight, plus any unanticipated delays. In order to determine how many batteries to travel with, customers should consider the posted flight time from departure to arrival, plus fifty percent (50%). Extra batteries must be packaged individually to protect from short-circuiting and physical damage. Batteries protected from short-circuit include batteries with recessed battery terminals and batteries packaged so that the battery terminals do not contact metal objects. Extra batteries must be packaged to meet standard packaging guidelines. Extra batteries shall be carried onboard the aircraft.
- Customer must ensure that the POC is free of oil, grease, or other petroleum products, and is in good condition and free of damage or other signs of excessive wear or abuse. Verification of appropriate maintenance of the POC must be provided by the passenger upon request.
- During taxi and takeoff or landing, the POC must be properly stowed under the seat in front of the user or in the overhead bin. If the customer is using the device during taxi, take-off, and landing, the customer must be seated so that the device does not restrict any customer’s access to an exit or the aisle. POCs may not be used when seated at an exit row or bulkhead seat.
- Customer may use the POC while moving about the cabin as long as the "Fasten Seat Belt" sign is not illuminated.
- Passenger is restricted from using any power outlet onboard the aircraft.
- If the POC is to be carried onboard the aircraft as carry-on baggage and is not intended to be used in flight, the POCs must be empty and free of pressure, if applicable. The battery must also be removed and packaged separately, unless the unit has at least two effective protective features to prevent accidental operation.
- RESTRICTED ITEMS: The following items are not permitted on board any HA aircraft:
- Personal oxygen systems containing liquid oxygen, including transportation of the device in the cabin or checked baggage;
- The use of a satellite conserver in conjunction with the POC.
- POCs and spare batteries, as well as carry cases, are considered by HA to be assistive devices and will not be counted toward the one carry-on baggage or personal item allowance.
- Passenger may be required to be assessed and cleared for prescreening or fit to fly evaluation.
- PRE-PLANNED OXYGEN SERVICE
Hawaiian Airlines will provide on-line in-flight supplemental oxygen service for travel within the State of Hawaii for requests made by the Hawaii Department of Human Services MedQuest Division ONLY for medical transport as follows:
- The transport coordinator will be required to give HA at least 48 hours advance notice that in-flight oxygen will be needed. Passenger will be required to be assessed and cleared for prescreening or fit to fly evaluation.
- A physician’s statement which includes the oxygen flow rate available as follows:
Minimum: 2 litres per minute
Maximum: 6 litres per minute
- The charge for supplemental oxygen is $75.00USD per bottle per passenger if administered with nasal cannula. If oxygen is administered with a mask, the charge will be $175USD per bottle per passenger. This charge is non-refundable, whether used or unused, and is not subject to any discounts.
- For Pediatric Use: Supplemental oxygen is available for pediatric use based on administration by the blow-by method only. HA will require a written statement from the passenger’s attending physician, dated within thirty (30) days of departure point, that the passenger accompanying the child is certified or trained in the blow-by method and is responsible for the administration of the prescribed blow-by oxygen (travel will be denied if there is no written statement to that effect at the time of check-in). HA will not be liable for the administration of or any injury caused by the administration of oxygen to a child.
- In-flight oxygen service will not be provided on code share service.
