Portable Electronic Devices

Hawaiian Airlines guests will be allowed to use their small personal electronic devices in "airplane mode" gate to gate on our domestic and most phases of our international routes. Personal electronic devices such as smartphones, tablets and similar devices are approved to be used from departure gate to arrival gate unless otherwise instructed by our in-flight team.

What is a Portable Electronic Device?

A Portable Electronic Device (PED) is a lightweight device less than 2 pounds that is electrically or battery-powered. These devices are typically capable of communications and data processing, such as smartphones, tablets or e-readers.

Note: Mobile phones that cannot be set to "airplane mode" can only be used when the boarding door is open and when taxing to the gate after landing. Your in-flight team will instruct you on when you may use your mobile phone.

Can I use my cellular service between the gate and takeoff / landing?

No, you will not be able to use your cellular functions from the time the boarding door has been closed until we have landed at our destination. All mobile devices must be set to "airplane mode" throughout the entire flight.

Upon landing, your in-flight team will let you know when you may use your cellular services.

What are the requirements for stowing electronic devices?

During takeoff and landing, PEDs must be held in your hand, placed in the seatback pocket or stowed. Larger electronic devices such as laptops and DVD players will need to be properly stowed in the overhead compartment or under the seat in front of you.

Is it required to use a headset when using portable electronic devices?

Although it is not required, please be courteous to those guests around you and use headsets when your device is making noise.
