Event Details

The Maui Steel Guitar Festival showcases the Hawaiian steel guitar — invented and popularized in Hawaii — and its importance in the Hawaiian music genre. The Hawaiian steel guitar is the only instrument thought to be indigenous to Hawaii.

This three-day festival at The Shops at Wailea includes a series of performances, presentations, instructional workshops, and jam sessions, as well as public and private school visits, where teams of performers and educators will demonstrate playing techniques to encourage interest and participation.

The festival promotes participation by local residents, particularly young people and is aimed at promoting awareness while providing entertainment. The festival is presented each year by non-profit organizations, including Arts Education for Children, and The Hawaii Institute for Music Enrichment and Learning Experiences.
