Christmas in Hawaii traditionally kicks off with a month-long celebration of dazzling lights and holiday displays, family-friendly activities and merry fun on the Frank F. Fasi Civic Center Grounds.

One of the many highlights of the opening-night festivities is the Public Workers’ Electric Light Parade, which celebrates its 28th year as part of Honolulu City Lights.

This sparkling procession of festooned city vehicles and school marching bands travels from Chinatown down King Street.

Mayor Kirk Caldwell will illuminate the city’s 50-foot holiday tree on the front lawn of Honolulu Hale.

Opening night includes a free, star-studded holiday concert near the Sky Gate.

The celebration kick-off is from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and attendees are encouraged to come early to take advantage of free parking that is available in the city’s municipal lot (entry from the left lane of Beretania Street just past Alapai Street).

The Honolulu City Lights festivities continues throughout the month of December — daily from 8 a.m. to 11 p.m. — and feature several special events to delight island families.
