Event Details
The world’s largest canoe race takes to the water over the Labor Day holiday weekend as nearly 2,500 paddlers line up for this year’s signature 18-mile race. The starting line is in Kona, and the course runs off the Kona Coast from Kamakahonu Bay — a National Historic Site — and Pu‘uhonua O Honaunau National Historic Park, and then back again, is spectator friendly and draws a crowd.
Outrigger canoe racing has long been a part of the Hawaiian culture and draws paddlers from around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Hong Kong, Canada and from California and Florida.
The event includes a parade, a multi-day Hawaiian Cultural Fair and a traditional Hawaiian Luau. For more information, visit www.qlcanoerace.com.
