Event Details

Celebrate the ritualistic and ceremonial practice of tattooing from Pacific and Arctic cultures, including Hawaiian, Inuit, Filipino and others. The inspiration for the festival goes beyond the current tattoo trends to illuminate the deep cultural origins of this practices as well as the perpetuation and innovation of traditions.

The four-day event kicks off on Friday with a grand opening celebration at The Blue Dragon Tavern. Saturday is a free cultural festival with music, food, dance, wood carving, lauhala, and traditional tattooing demonstrations.

A film festival (at various venues) on Saturday and Sunday and a two-day Traditional Tattoo Festival Symposium will be held Sunday and Monday at the GRACE Center, Kohala Institute in Kapaau.
