Children Traveling Alone
Children traveling alone between the ages of 5 through 12 on Alaska Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, and Horizon Air are considered unaccompanied minors (UMNR). For itineraries that include flights operated by another carrier, review the operating carrier's unaccompanied minor requirements before booking. Interline transfers of UMNRs are not permitted.

For additional information regarding unaccompanied minor requirements, fees, and travel restrictions, refer to Children traveling alone.

SSR Documentation

When the UMNR service is required or requested, add the appropriate UMNR SSR to the reservation.

The following information should be added to the child's record as a UMNR SSR:
  • Alaska Airlines flight number, class of service, travel date, and the child's age at the time of travel.
  • Example: SSR UMNR AS 2431G10OCT/UM10NN1 (10 = passenger age at the time of travel)

Important: Unaccompanied minor capacity is limited on each flight. Travel agents must verify that the UMNR SSR returns as confirmed. An unconfirmed SSR may indicate that the maximum number of unaccompanied minors has been reached.

Emergency Contact Information

For all children traveling alone, including UMNRs and passengers ages 13-17 traveling independently, add a PCTC SSR with emergency contact information.
  • Include the emergency contact's name and telephone number.
  • Example: SSR PCTC AS HK/JOHN DOE/US99988881234

Passengers Ages 13-17 Traveling Alone

Passengers aged 13-17 may travel without UMNR service on eligible flights. Junior Jetsetter service remains available upon request and is subject to applicable restrictions and availability.

When a passenger aged 13-17 is traveling independently without UMNR service, add an OTHS SSR documenting the passenger's age and that no assistance has been requested.
  • Include the passenger's age at the time of travel.
  • Example: OTHS TEEN NO ASSISTANCE REQUESTED AGE 15 (15 = passenger age at the time of travel)

For international itineraries, additional documentation and parental consent requirements may apply. Refer to Children Traveling Internationally for country-specific requirements.

Additional Information

For current age requirements, travel restrictions, fees, airport procedures, and eligibility requirements, refer to the following resources:
  • Children Traveling Alone
  • Children Traveling Internationally

Travel agents are responsible for reviewing applicable restrictions, documentation requirements, and travel eligibility before booking and advising the child's parent or guardian of applicable requirements and restrictions.
