How to get pre-cleared before entering Hawaii

All Hawaii-bound guests of Hawaiian Airlines can be pre-cleared at their departure airport prior to boarding their flight. The process and requirements vary, so please review the details below. Pre-clear is available at all U.S. Mainland and international airports that Hawaiian Airlines operates from.

U.S. domestic or U.S. territory airports

Through the state of Hawaii Safe Travels program, travelers have two options to bypass the State’s mandatory 10-day self-quarantine by either showing proof of full vaccination (vaccine must be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or the World Health Organization) or by taking a state-approved COVID-19 test no more than 72 hours prior to the final scheduled departure into Hawaii and obtaining a negative test result prior to boarding. Learn more.

For those who meet the requirements to bypass quarantine, Hawaiian Airlines is now offering guests the opportunity to be pre-cleared prior to departure and avoid long wait times upon arrival into Hawaii.

To qualify for the pre-clear program, complete the following steps:

  1. Create a Safe Travels account for every adult on the itinerary.
  2. Add all flight and lodging information to the account.
  3. Complete the mandatory health questionnaire within the account.
  4. Upload negative test result (PDF format) from a Hawaii trusted testing partner or valid proof of vaccination (vaccine must be approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration or the World Health Organization) to your Safe Travels account. We also recommend bringing a printed copy of your negative result or a physical copy of your vaccination card.

These documents will be verified during the pre-screening process prior to departure. If your valid negative COVID-19 test results or valid vaccination card are not uploaded to the Safe Travels app prior to departure or not made available during screening, you will be required to sign the 10-day self-quarantine agreement. International airports

All guests traveling to Hawaii from outside of the U.S. must meet the U.S. entry requirements and have all documents screened prior to boarding the aircraft. Requirements and documentation will vary based on your citizenship and vaccination status. The following will be checked by our Airport Operations team prior to boarding:

Vaccinated non-U.S. citizens and U.S. citizens

  • Show proof of full vaccination status prior to boarding. See details on accepted vaccines, as well as acceptable forms of proof of vaccination. Children under the age of 18 are not required to show proof of vaccination.
  • Show proof of a negative pre-travel COVID-19 test (nucleic acid amplification test [NAAT] or antigen) taken no more than 3 days prior to the last leg of departure to the U.S. All travelers 2 years and older need to complete this step.
  • Sign two attestations confirming your negative test result and full vaccination status. Attestations need to be completed for all travelers 2 years and older prior to boarding.

    Unvaccinated U.S. citizens

  • Show proof of a negative pre-travel COVID-19 test (nucleic acid amplification test [NAAT] or antigen) taken no more than 1 day prior to the last leg of departure to the U.S. All travelers 2 years and older need to complete this step.
  • Sign a negative test attestation. Attestations need to be completed for all travelers 2 years and older prior to boarding.

    Unvaccinated non-U.S. citizens with exception

  • If you are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you will not be able to board a flight to the United States unless you meet the criteria for an exception under the U.S. government proclamation and CDC’s Order. See the full list of exceptions and requirements for each listed here. Please note that some exceptions will require post-arrival testing, quarantine upon arrival or possibly even agreement to vaccination after 60 days in the U.S., so it’s critical that you read through the full requirements.
