Requirements for traveling to Hawaii

The United States requires all non-U.S. citizens and non-U.S. immigrants entering the country by plane be fully vaccinated. Limited exceptions apply.

Full details on the U.S. entry requirements can be found on the U.S. CDC’s website.

Vaccinated travelers need to show proof of full vaccination status prior to boarding. See details on accepted vaccines, as well as acceptable forms of proof of vaccination. Children under the age of 18 are not required to show proof of vaccination.

Additionally, all travelers (U.S. citizens and non-U.S. citizens) ages 2 years and older must complete the CDC attestation prior to boarding.

As of midnight on Sunday, June 12, 2022, international travelers will no longer need to provide a negative COVID-19 test result before entering the U.S.

All international travelers

Follow the step-by-step instructions to meet the requirements necessary for entering the U.S. and State of Hawaii. If you do not meet these requirements, you will not be able to board your flight.

Please note that some exceptions apply for unvaccinated non-U.S. citizens and non-U.S. immigrants:

  • If you are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19, you will not be able to board a flight to the United States unless you meet the criteria for an exception under the U.S. government proclamation and CDC’s Order. See the full list of exceptions and requirements for each listed here. Please note that some exceptions will require post-arrival testing, quarantine upon arrival or possibly even agreement to vaccination after 60 days, so it’s critical that you read through the full requirements.
  • Sign the CDC attestation. Download and print the form prior to arriving at the airport. Attestations need to be completed for all travelers 2 years and older prior to boarding.

Bring your vaccination card to the airport

Pack this in your carry-on bag, as you will be asked to show proof before boarding.

Prior to boarding your flight to Hawaii, you will be asked to show proof of your full vaccination status by presenting your physical vaccination card. Have your card easily accessible in your carry-on bag.

If you are an unvaccinated U.S. citizen, you do not need to show proof of vaccination, but will need to complete all other steps.

Print and complete the CDC forms

Don’t forget to pack this with you before you depart for the airport.

Every traveler 2 years and older will need to complete the following CDC passenger forms either at home (recommended) or during check-in at the airport. Be sure to present your completed forms at the ticket counter.

Traveling with kids?

If you’re traveling with keiki (children), here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Every child 2 years and older will need to complete the CDC passenger attestation forms.

Masks

In alignment with TSA’s Security Directive, as of April 18, 2022, face masks are now optional for our guests and employees onboard Hawaiian Airlines flights. However, please keep in mind that masks are required at all international airports we fly to. We recommend packing a mask in your carry-on bag and having it ready to wear upon deplaning the aircraft if you are not already wearing one in flight.

Returning to Japan

Japan has relaxed its border measures, allowing visitors to enter the country without obtaining a visa and ending their daily cap on arrivals. However, travelers will still need to provide proof of vaccination and booster shot or submit a negative COVID-19 test result ahead of their trip. For more information, please click here.

All travelers (both international guests and returnees) who provide proof of receiving the vaccination and at least one booster shot may forego the requirement to submit a negative pre-departure COVID test result. Those who are unable to provide proof of vaccination and receipt of a booster shot must submit proof of a negative COVID test result taken within 72 hours prior to departure. Children under the age of 18 who do not have a valid vaccination certificate can be exempt from the pre-travel COVID test mandate if accompanied by a guardian with a valid vaccination certificate. Children who hold a valid vaccination certificate are not required to submit proof of a negative test result taken within 72 hours of departure.

Guests are strongly encouraged to register their information through "Visit Japan Web" (VJW) to shorten their entry time and streamline their arrival process. For more information, please click here.

Please keep in mind that while masks are no longer required on board our flights, Japan airports do require that masks are worn inside the airport. We recommend packing a mask in your carry-on bag and having it ready to wear upon deplaning the aircraft if you are not already wearing one in flight.
