Things to do in Austin
We couldn’t be more excited to tell you about our newest route to Austin, Texas. The capital of the Lone Star State is known as the “live music capital of the world” and is one of the country’s epicenters for food, art, film, events and creative culture.
The city is famous for the slogan, “Keep Austin weird,” so there’s no shortage of truly unique sites, spots and streets to explore. Start on South Congress Avenue (SoCo) and browse the vintage shops, one-of-a-kind boutiques and renowned restaurants. Listen to live country, blues and jazz as you bar crawl through the renovated houses on Rainey Street. For art lovers, you can find colorful street art around just about every corner.
Outdoors, visit Zilker Park’s Barton Springs Pool, which features a freshwater public pool with an average refreshing temperature of 68-70 degrees (Hawaii locals may want to bring a wetsuit). For a scenic view of the city, take a short hike up Mount Bonnell in Covert Park, Austin’s highest point at 775 feet. Of course, food may be your number one reason for coming to Austin with a wealth of snap-worthy food trucks and eateries serving the best barbecue, breakfast tacos, and chicken fried steak in the country.
Austin is also known for its big events, from the film, music and media celebration of South by Southwest in March, to the Austin Food + Wine Festival in April, to the year-round cinephile-centered events at the Alamo Drafthouse. Dynamic, colorful and endlessly creative, good times aren’t hard to find in Austin.
