The natural history of Kokee and Waimea Canyon State Parks is spotlighted here, including exhibits on land and seashells; native and introduced birds; and the traditional uses of Hawaiian forest trees (touching blocks of various woods shows you how they differ in color, weight and grain).
Mounted on two three-paneled wooden screens are 44 color plates of lovely floral watercolors painted by Isabella Sinclair, which appeared in her 1885 book Indigenous Flowers of the Hawaiian Islands.
The museum doubles as a visitor and activity center where staffers share information about hiking trails and cultural, educational and stewardship programs in Kokee.
