An acai-banana frozen blend in a papaya bowl

Acai served in bowls are so 2000. 

At Banán, opt to eat the frozen treat out of a papaya instead. (Don’t worry, you can still order acai in a bowl.) 

The creamy acai is blended with local bananas from Sugarland Growers in Central Oahu. 

Order the Amazon combination topped with granola, puffed quinoa, strawberries, banana and honey for extra crunch and sweetness. 

Banán is the brainchild of four childhood friends, Matt Hong, Zak Barry, Luke Untermann and Galen McCleary. 

The four reunited back on Oahu after college and launched a food truck selling banana soft-serve. 

Business flourished and after a successful Kickstarter campaign, Banán opened a brick-and-mortar location on University Avenue in 2016. 

The location did so well, they set up a second shop in Waikiki and just recently opened their doors in Kailua. 

Can’t finish all of that papaya bowl? Give it back to Banán! The shop donates its food waste, roughly 1,000 gallons per week, to a local pig farmer on Oahu’s Leeward coast.
