If you have 2-3 hours to squeeze in a hike, the Makapuu Point Lighthouse Trail is worth a visit. Journey up the paved road (2.5 miles round-trip) and you’ll be rewarded with some of Oahu’s most spectacular views.
Located within the Kaiwi State Scenic Shoreline, the paved trail takes in gorgeous panoramas of the northeast and southeast shores, with historic Makapuu Lighthouse gleaming bright against the vast blue sea.
Tiny islets lie offshore, and between November and April, you just might see humpback whales spouting and breaching. Binoculars, sunscreen and water are a must.
