Chuck Furuya first began working in restaurants while attending college as a way to earn extra income. Wine service and education quickly became his passion, and in 1988, Furuya became only the tenth person in the United States—and the only person in Hawaii—to ever pass the rigorous Master Sommelier examination.
A noted expert on pairing wines with Pacific Rim cuisine, today Furuya collaborates with some of the finest chefs in the world and brings his expertise to the air as the official Hawaiian Airlines sommelier. According to Furuya, “I love finding new wines and pairing it with food. But most of all, I love teaching people to love wine.”
