Bicycles

You are welcome to check a non-motorized bicycle as a standard checked bag. We will accept a bicycle in a hard-sided case, soft-sided case, or cardboard box up to 70 pounds (32kg) and 115 linear inches (292 cm). For items over 70 pounds, overweight fees will apply.

What is the best way to protect my bicycle during travel?

Make sure your bicycle is adequately packed before you arrive at the airport. We do not provide packing materials.

  • Use a case designed for air travel. Hard-sided cases or bicycle boxes are recommended.
  • Fix the handlebars sideways or enclose them in plastic foam or another protective material.
  • Remove pedals and accessories or enclose them in plastic foam or another protective material.

What if my bicycle is over 70 pounds?

For heavier bicycles, our overweight baggage fee applies.

  • Neighbor Island flights: 71-100 pounds (32-45 kg): Additional $70 fee
  • North America flights: 71-100 pounds (32-45 kg): Additional $200 fee
  • International flights: our normal International excess weight charges and rules will apply. Items over 70 pounds (32kg) are not accepted in French Polynesia, Cook Islands, Australia, or New Zealand.

For International flights, you may check in your properly packed bicycle as part of your baggage allowance. Any additional pieces over the baggage allowance will be subject to additional fees.

Note

In the unlikely event that we cannot accommodate your bicycle on your flight for reasons of space, we will load it on the next available flight. When that flight arrives, you may claim your item at baggage claim. Please note that we do not provide ground transportation for bicycles.
