Bid Up by Hawaiian Airlines

General

What is Bid Up?

Bid Up gives you the opportunity to upgrade to our First Class (North America routes only) or Business Class (International routes only) by making an offer online. You can make an offer up to 28 hours before departure on eligible flights operated by Hawaiian Airlines.

How does Bid Up work?

You may place a bid on eligible itineraries by visiting our website and entering in your confirmation code and last name. Prior to any eligible flight, you will also receive an email invitation to participate in Bid Up. You may also review your itinerary via My Trips, where a special offer to bid will be present if your itinerary is eligible.

Once verified that your itinerary is eligible, you’ll be able to submit an offer to upgrade (one offer per segment, and applies to all passengers on each segment that is upgraded) and see the estimated strength of your offer during the bidding process. If successful, you’ll be charged your bid amount and receive a confirmation email 48-24 hours prior to departure. If you are not upgraded, you’ll be informed 24 hours prior to departure and you will keep your original ticket.

Who is eligible for the Hawaiian Airlines Bid Up service?

You must be holding a confirmed ticket and flying on at least one (1) Hawaiian Airlines operated flight between Hawaii and North America or Hawaii and International. You must not be seated in Main Cabin Basic, be traveling with an infant or pet, or booked as an unaccompanied minor.

What do I get if my Bid Up upgrade is successful?

You will enjoy the full First Class or Business Class experience on the flight associated with the bid, including enhanced food and beverage options, priority security line, boarding and baggage handling. Please note that the accrual of HawaiianMiles will be based on the original ticket.

Who will receive a Hawaiian Airlines Bid Up email notification?

Only the first listed passenger on the Hawaiian Airlines reservation with the qualifying attributes above will receive an email invitation to participate in Bid Up. You may also check your eligibility by clicking here and entering in your confirmation code and last name. If eligible, simply follow the prompts to place a bid.

Will I earn additional flight HawaiianMiles if I am upgraded with Bid Up?

No, there will be no additional travel mileage earning on Bid Up upgrades. Upgraded guests are eligible to earn HawaiianMiles at the rate of their originally purchased Main Cabin ticket(s).

Will I earn bonus HawaiianMiles for Bid Up if I am the primary cardholder for my Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard®?

Yes, for winning bids, if you are the primary cardholder using your Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® as the form of payment for the bid, you will earn 3 HawaiianMiles per dollar spent on your upgrade. Please log into your account to view your Reward Rules for more information about the rewards associated with your account.

What will happen if I have placed a bid, but I decided to change my booking?

If the routing on your new itinerary remains the same, you will receive a notification that the original bid was transferred to your new flight. You may cancel your upgrade bid 48 hours prior to departure.

If the routing on your new itinerary has changed, the original bid will be cancelled and you will receive an email notifying your change in itinerary. If your new flight is eligible, you can submit a new bid via the link on the new email invitation or by checking eligibility here.

Bid Up Process

When I enter my confirmation code and Last Name an error message appears. What should I do in this case?

Please check your Hawaiian Airlines confirmation code and Last Name and try again. If the error persists, please contact our Web Support Center.

Can I choose any amount I want for my upgrade offer?

The system has a default minimum and maximum bid amount set. It will not accept any offer lower than the minimum amount or higher than the maximum amount.

Can I offer different amounts for the upgrade for each segment of my journey?

Yes, you can offer different amounts for each eligible segment. Auctions are conducted by segment, not as a roundtrip. Please pay attention to the segment of your itinerary for which you are currently making an offer and set the slider accordingly.

Can I submit an offer for an upgrade on only one flight segment?

Yes. You can choose whether to submit an upgrade offer for any eligible departure or return flight. Bids are submitted by flight segment.

I have booked five (5) guests under the same itinerary. Is it possible to upgrade two guests only?

No, First Class/Business Class upgrade bids are made for all passengers on the same itinerary.

What do I do if I don't receive an e-mail after submitting my offer?

Please wait 4 hours as it may take time for the e-mail to be generated. Please also check the spam folder in your e-mail account. You can check the status of your offer at any time by visiting http://www.hawaiianairlines.com/bidup and entering your confirmation code and last name to access your offer information. If you would like to request to receive an email with your offer information, please contact our Web Support Center.

How will I know that my offer was accepted and that the upgrade was approved?

You will receive an email between 48-24 hours prior to departure confirming whether or not your upgrade offer was accepted. If you submitted offers for multiple flights, you will receive separate notifications for each flight.

My offer has been successful, and I have been informed via email. How do I verify that I’ve been upgraded?

If you would like to check that the upgrade is reflected in your reservation prior to check-in, please visit My Trips and enter your confirmation code and last name to view your new seat assignment.

What will happen if I have made an offer and it has not been successful?

You will receive an email 24 hours prior to departure informing you that your offer has been unsuccessful. Another offer cannot be made for that flight. No amount will be deducted from your credit card and you will travel with your existing ticket.

Will I have the option to choose my seat(s) at the time of upgrade?

No, you will not be able to choose your seats when the upgrade is awarded as seats are assigned based on availability.

Preparing for Your Trip

When one flight of my trip is upgraded, what is the additional baggage allowance for my whole trip?

Additional baggage allowance applies to the North America segment(s) that have been upgraded to First Class.

  • For example, a confirmed ticket from Honolulu to Seattle roundtrip has the first segment (Honolulu-Seattle) upgraded to First Class. The additional baggage allowance of 2 free checked bags applies only on the upgraded segment (Honolulu-Seattle). For the return segment (Seattle - Honolulu), your baggage allowance will depend on the cabin booked.

For International (Business Class) travel, 2 free checked bags are already included with the purchase of your original economy class ticket. A successful upgrade will not add any additional bags to this allowance. Read here for information on Baggage Fees & Policies.

Can I get both the First Class/Business Class baggage benefits and an additional bag for using my Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard® as my form of payment to upgrade?

No, you will be able to check up to 2 complimentary bags when seated in the First or Business Class cabin, regardless of whether your upgrade was paid for with your Hawaiian Airlines® World Elite Mastercard®. Please log into your account to view your Reward Rules for more information about the rewards associated with your account.
