Hilo Bay Cafe

A night on the town with great views

You could be forgiven for believing that rainy Hilo town rolls up its damp sidewalks at sunset, but stylish, contemporary Hilo Bay Café, perched high above Hilo Bay and approached by a dramatic stairway, feels like it operates on a whole other level.

This is one establishment that Hilo dresses up for, and the views from the bar and lanai are far and away the best in town.

Couples out for a “grown up” night on the town head straight here.

Cocktails are made with all fresh ingredients for mixes, such as limes and lemons juiced on the spot and mint (no spray) from the manager’s yard.

The full menu is available at the bar. HBC features beer and wine specials and runs nightly cocktail specials created by the bartender on duty.

The menu is also more “city” than one would expect in Hilo.

For light nibbles there are starters and sushi options aplenty that are creative, Pacific region influenced, and fresh — from the Hawaiian ahi poke to the spicy lava rolls.

Try the after-dinner drink, “Take the Elevator,” or a lavender-lychee margarita.
