The Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational

Honoring legendary waterman Eddie Aikau, this big wave riding competition keeps spectators in awe.

Situated on Oahu’s legendary North Shore surf haven, Waimea Bay is the location of the Eddie Aikau Big Wave Invitational. This radical surfing contest challenges the most accomplished surfers to ride 20+ feet waves. These surfers are selected to participate in "The Eddie," as it is called.

Immense crowds of 25-30,000 people routinely pack the beach and surrounding hillside during The Eddie—those who plan on attending the contest should plan ahead for limited access to parking and restroom facilities as well as food and beverages.

Spectators can look forward to watching some of the world’s top big-wave surfers as elite athletes (including women), alternates and legends will showcase their skills if the right conditions arise.

The contest will only run when conditions and size meet the right expectations.
