Early boarding

Active-duty military personnel are eligible for early boarding after Zone 2. Please listen for announcements at the gate.

Military baggage allowance

U.S. military personnel receive complimentary checked bags, as noted below. Please see an airport agent at check-in. You may be asked to provide a valid military ID and proof of order.

Active-duty military personnel and dependents on official travel orders:

  • First 5 bags free (Max 70lbs / 80 linear in)

Active-duty military member on personal travel
(excluding dependents)

  • First 2 bags free (Max 50lbs / 62 linear in)

Note: The term "Military" refers to the USA Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard departments and their respective academies. It also includes the USA National Guard and commissioned officers of the U.S. Public Health Service, as well as those with a valid CAC card. Please refer to HA's Contract of Carriage for additional details.

Military pets to/from Japan

Hawaiian Airlines does not permit pet travel on international flights. However, to better serve the needs of our military community, we allow active-duty military personnel and qualified dependents traveling on official orders to transport family pets (cats or dogs) as checked baggage to/from Japan (excluding Chitose).

Please see our Pets Traveling as Checked Baggage help page for general travel requirements regarding kennel size and composition, weight, animal safety, etc. For specific information about Japan's pet import and export requirements, please call Hawaiian Airlines Reservations at 1-800-367-5320 (24/7).

  • Pet Fee Hawaii to Japan: $340
  • Pet Fee Japan to Hawaii: 41,000 JPY
  • Present a valid military ID (active-duty or dependent of active-duty personnel) and military orders indicating a Permanent Change of Station (PCS).
  • If your travel plans include a connecting flight on Hawaiian Airlines or another carrier, your pet must be picked up in Honolulu and then re-checked in for the subsequent flight. Pets flying to/from Japan will not be connected to another flight, regardless of carrier.
  • Pets are not permitted to travel in the cabin on Japan flights.
  • Pet travel benefits on Japan flights are not available to military contractors or vendor personnel.

Family members of deployed U.S. servicemen and servicewomen

Families of U.S. service members leaving for or returning from deployment may request a gate pass to accompany their active-duty family member at the gate.

Elite status extension

Our Elite Status Extension program allows our guests to keep your Pualani Elite Status for an additional program year due to military deployment.
